Although I don't formally teach guitar or bass, I do love to share things that I have learned either from figuring things out the hard way, or from synthesizing a few ideas I've learned from others. The purpose of this page is to archive these tips as short videos where I briefly discuss something that I find useful. The tips are in no particular order and are really meant for people to pick and choose bits and pieces of rather than some encompassing method book. If there is something that you hear me play that interests you in some way, I'd be delighted to show you how to do it! Please let me know if there is anything that I can record to add to this collection!
Tip #1: Song intro/outro ideas
Once I have an arrangement that I like, I spend quite a bit of time thinking about ways to start it off, and how the whole thing is going to end! In this video I discuss:
- taking a piece of the existing melody;

- harmonizing a melodic idea or motif;
- morphing other people's ideas;
- using clichees!
